Saturday, Nov. 24 was Small Business Day. Nestled between Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Small Business Day is a time to encourage consumers to buy from small retailers. President Barack Obama made a big deal about buying some books at a small bookstore.

Made in America Panel Proposes it’s time for America to convert employees from selling products to making products

Neal Asbury opened his nationally syndicated “Neal Asbury’s Made in America” show on Radio America by warning that with today’s economy and taxes, 25 percent of low wage retail jobs are going away, predicting that high unemployment and under-employment are the “new normal.”

Hiring Increases When Exports Rise

At one time, even though the economy was in severe distress, at least U.S. exports were on the rise. But now the U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, through the Department of Commerce, announced that exports in July of $183.3 billion and imports of $225.3 billion resulted in a goods and services deficit of $42.0 billion, up from $41.9 billion in June.

And July exports were $1.9 billion less than June exports of $185.2 billion.

As I watched the speeches at the Democratic and Republican conventions, the idea of the American Dream was inserted into many of the presentations. Yet, the visions of the American Dream were inherently different.
